Slack Notifications
Send workspace notifications to Slack when posts are published or approvals are requested.
What Slack notifications do
Slack notifications send real-time alerts to your Slack workspace when:
- Posts are published (success or failure)
- Approvals are requested (team or client review needed)
- Warnings occur (platform errors, account issues)
Notifications are opt-in and default OFF — nothing sends until you explicitly enable each category.
Before you start
- You need access to a Slack workspace where you can install apps
- Workspace admin permissions (to install the Aidelly app)
- A Slack channel where notifications should be posted
- Aidelly workspace permissions to enable integrations
Step 1 — Connect the Slack app
- Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations (or Account Settings → Integrations)
- Find Slack in the integrations catalog
- Click Connect Slack
- You're redirected to Slack's OAuth page
- Choose your Slack workspace (top-left dropdown)
- Click Allow to grant Aidelly permission
- You're redirected back to Aidelly
- Aidelly saves your Slack connection (encrypted bot token)
Step 2 — Choose your notification channel
- After connecting, you'll see "Slack connected" in Integrations
- Click Configure (or the settings icon)
- Select the Slack channel where notifications should post
- Click Save
Notifications will post to this channel. You can change it anytime.
Step 3 — Enable notification categories
Once configured, notification rules appear:
- Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations → Slack
- You'll see three categories (each default OFF):
- Approvals — when posts need approval
- Publish results — when posts publish (success/failure)
- Warnings — platform alerts, connection issues
- Toggle each category ON to enable
- Click Save
Important: Nothing sends until you explicitly enable categories.
Understanding each notification category
Approvals
Sent when a post is submitted for team or client approval:
- Shows post preview (caption + image thumbnail if available)
- Identifies the approver(s) needed
- Includes a button to open the approvals page
Publish Results
Sent when a post completes publishing (success or failure):
- Success: Post published to X platforms with timestamp
- Failure: Post failed on Z platform with reason (quota, account issue, token expired, etc.)
- Helpful for catching issues immediately
Warnings
Sent for platform-level issues:
- Account token expiring soon
- Webhook connection health problems
- Reconnect needed (account token revoked by the platform)
- Rate limiting or quota warnings
Slack message format
Notifications appear as Slack messages in your chosen channel:
- Approvals: Thread with post preview and action links
- Publish results: Formatted as green (success) or red (failure) message with details
- Warnings: Yellow alert-style message with the issue and recommended action
Click links in Slack messages to jump into Aidelly for full details or quick action.
Changing or disconnecting Slack
To change the notification channel:
- Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations → Slack
- Click Change channel
- Select a new channel
- Click Save
To disconnect Slack:
- Click the × or Disconnect button next to Slack in Integrations
- Confirm
- Aidelly stops sending notifications; the app remains installed in your Slack workspace
- To remove the app entirely, go to your Slack workspace settings and uninstall
Slack workspace permissions
The Aidelly app in Slack needs these permissions:
- Post messages — to send notifications to your channel
- Read channel names — to let you pick which channel to post to
- Manage bot tokens — encrypted connection to your workspace
You grant these during the OAuth connect step. Aidelly can't see private messages or other channels.
Common questions
Q: Can I send notifications to multiple Slack channels?
A: Not yet. You can have one Slack connection per Aidelly workspace, posting to one channel. Multiple-channel support is a future improvement.
Q: What if I don't want notifications in a public channel?
A: Create a private channel (invite only) and choose that as your notification channel. Or use Telegram for private-only notifications.
Q: Can I test the connection?
A: Yes. After connecting, the Slack integration panel shows "Connected" with a send test button (future feature). For now, wait for the first real notification.
Q: Are Slack messages encrypted?
A: Bot tokens are encrypted in Aidelly's database. Slack's own protocol handles in-transit encryption. Messages in Slack use standard Slack encryption.
Q: What if someone changes the Slack channel permissions?
A: If the channel is deleted or the bot loses permissions, notifications fail silently. Reconnect and choose a new channel.
Q: Can I filter notifications by platform or account?
A: Not yet. All notifications in a category go to the same channel. Platform-level filtering is a future improvement.
Q: What's the difference between Slack and Telegram notifications?
A: Same categories and opt-in posture. Slack uses the app connection with a UI picker. Telegram uses a bot token. Both are independent services.
Q: Do Slack notifications include post images?
A: Yes, notifications show post thumbnails (images and video frames). Captions are truncated if very long. Click to see the full post.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| "Connection failed" | Retry the Slack OAuth connection from Integrations |
| Notifications not arriving | Ensure the category is toggled ON; check Slack channel permissions |
| Wrong channel receiving notifications | Go to Configure and pick the correct channel |
| Slack app uninstalled | Reconnect: click Connect Slack to reinstall and authorize |
| App won't post to channel | Verify the Aidelly bot is a member of the channel (add it manually if needed) |
